Pay My Losses And Take New Chances

the clothes horse, theclotheshorse, fashion, style, retro, vintage, black dress, sailor, tourjours toi, family affairs, mariasusa, ballet flatsSo, this might sound crazy, but this outfit reminds me of the bathing costumes from the early 1900s. The bike shorts really drove the similarity home for me, but I don't mind the comparison--it's fun to pull inspiration from random places and this outfit is ridiculously comfy.
The weather here still hasn't quite caught up with fall yet--and that's not quite a complaint. This long balmy end-of-summerness is actually reminding me of Hawaii and making me want to live there again. However, I do have a number of coats that I'm dying to wear...perhaps we'll just crank up the air conditioning (so strange to live in a house that has this again) and have an igloo party!the clothes horse, theclotheshorse, fashion, style, retro, vintage, black dress, sailor, tourjours toi, family affairs, mariasusa, ballet flatsthe clothes horse, theclotheshorse, fashion, style, retro, vintage, black dress, sailor, tourjours toi, family affairs, mariasusa, ballet flatsthe clothes horse, theclotheshorse, fashion, style, retro, vintage, black dress, sailor, tourjours toi, family affairs, mariasusa, ballet flatsthe clothes horse, theclotheshorse, fashion, style, retro, vintage, black dress, sailor, tourjours toi, family affairs, mariasusa, ballet flats

You look like fun in the fall normally everyone just looks cold and sad. Anyway do those stack up (durability wise)?

I really like the details on this dress. The collar and volume in the sleeves are lovely.

You have the most gorgeous hair btw! I have major hair envy haha.

You don't sound crazy-- I was reminded of a 1920s bathing suit before I even read your text. The ocean in the background helps too! Cute outfit.

Rebecca you are absolutely adorable!! I love the jumping picture! I can't believe you shot that with a tripod, that takes some serious skill!

I can't wait to wear my winter coats either. Although, I'm sure once that cold weather hits I'll be missing the warmth!

It's as if you dipped your braid in blue Kool-Aid! Love the effect with the braid.

This really does remind me of old "golden era of films" bathing costumes and suits... I'm not a fan of bike shorts, but tis nice to see someone who can show people how it is properly done.

You pull off black like no one's business. You always keep it interesting, whether in all black or full-blast colors. I love how your style isn't really definable either, always evolving, not particularly following the trends but just having an intuition for what works.

Oh how I miss my sunglasses! You're lucky to still be able to wear shorts with BARE LEGS (I'm shivering just thinking of it)
Heheh I love the photo of you jumping. My face would go all messed up if I tryed taking a picture whilst jumping, let alone smile!

Wow, interesting and creative solution to the 'hmm this dress is too short for me to walk around comfortably' dilemma.

Family Affairs make some gorgeous stuff, I remember a white star dress of theirs that you wore once, you should wear it again, it was lovely.

I definitely see the early 1900's influence in this outfit. It's so adorable! Also, your shoes and sunglasses are so cute!

This outfit is very "bathing beauty"-esque (which I think is great)! And I'll just go ahead and admit that I am crazy jealous of your fabulous collection of Family Affairs clothing. I need to start saving my pennies for a dress or a skirt or two! ;)

How can it not be fall yet for you when it's winter for me. I want to be able to wear dresses too... ;)

I agree - it does really remind me of those old school bathing costumes. Very cute!

One of my favorite outfits! It does resemble the bathing costumes, or rather it kind of gives them a little knowing nod. I'm so enthralled by your hair in these shots, too. And...jealous that you're in Virginia. Sigh. I miss it. Come here to Minnesota, you can have all the coat weather you like :)

@Anonymous, I just tucked the straps under for a bit of a different look.
