Sadder Than The Owl Song

When I was little I had a lot of stuffed animals. Almost no dolls, just stuffed animals. As children are want to do, I played favorites with them. Some I would shower with attention and others I would ignore. This always led to a nagging sense of guilt and even fear that my neglected stuffed pets would be angry with me...all this to say: I feel this way about my purses now. I've collected so many purses over the years from vintage stores, thrift stores, markets, and the regular retailers. Some hang in a closet in the attic, others are lined up on shelves, or scattered around my room, and a very select few are actually used. Even this lovely owl purse which I bought at a market in Florence, Italy this past summer has only been taken out a few times. I almost reached for a basic grey purse to use this day, but the owl somberly eyed me up in my closet and made me feel too guilty to leave it there. Moral of the story? Don't anthropomorphise your purses...

Jeez, it's very whimsical, just like the rest of your wardrobe, but I can understand how something so cute and charming can sit in the closet for a long time.

I have a handful of purses, but I only use about three of them at any given time in a year. I like useful bags, not ones that are pretty. I carry too much crap around with me!

I have trouble with that too. There should be a Toy Story version of fashionistas' unused wardrobe items. Your outfit too cute, and that owl purse deserves lots of love!

What a great moral! Lol!! I love that you treat your animal purses the same as your stuffed animals. I used to reorganize all mine when I was younger and sadly I didn't play with them because I was afraid of messing them up. So at least some of them got attention;)

I'm the same as you. Although I think it's more about my jewelry. I tend to wear a couple select pieces a lot, while ignore the rest and there's always a nagging guilt.

Gorgeous owl purse, I love how it mixes so well with your outfit.

haha I used to feel that way about everything when I was little. Even now I feel bad using one colour highlighter more than another and will try and be fair and "take turns" so no one's feelings get hurt. So so lame. But that is a lovely bag :) xxx

Haha that's funny. I used to feel that way with my tops, so I now keep them in a line-up. Each one gets worn equally. It's also really easy to get dressed in the morning!

I know exactly what you mean- I still feel guilty about neglecting cuddly toys, and now do it with shoes. Not handbags so much but I tend to get a new pair of shoes, and forsake them for all others, until they get really tatty and I have to consider alternatives.

I so love this bag! adorable! And don't worry, I feel the same way about my bags (especially the vintage ones) yet I tend to play favorites with one or two.

You've posted the cutest bags lately!!! Love this one so much. I didn't have dolls either, but that's because I was not fond of them. :: shrugs ::

I'm glad I'm not the only one who worried that their stuffed animals had feelings! I always apologized to the ones I never played with as a child...

you look amazing, as always :)

haha I was obsessed with stuffed animals as a kid and used them almost as dolls. I would dress my stuffed rotweiler Carlos up in bathing suits and take him to my swimming lessons. Carlos would watch from the sidelines of course. And I had a group of cat stuffed animals, Diana was the leader, so they formed a girl group called Diana and the Singing Cats. I would bring half of these animals to kindergarten show and tell meanwhile everyone else brought in cool rock collections or art projects and there was me with Diana who was going to sing everyone the "blueberry muffin song." To this day, I have no clue what that song is haha

We all have our weird anthropomorphic quirks. For example, whenever I have to refill a printer or copy machine with paper, I always put the new paper on the bottom of the stack, because I don't think it's fair to the paper already in there if it doesn't get used up first.

I was guilty of the same crime. My cousin is still deeply traumatised because I apparently told her that if she didn't let her favourite doll sleep in her bed how would they ever come to life? This led to her still, as a young woman, having issues about leaving a stuffed polar bear anywhere. He must be in her room and travel with her wherever she may go.

That purse is awesome though I guess it is a bit of an attention-grabber that wouldn't necessarily work with every outfit. There's something so cool about what you're wearing even though it's really simple. I think it's how all the solid blocks of color come together. Also your hair is adorable!

Oh my gosh, that owl purse is SO UTTERLY AMAZING. I adore it beyond what is respectable. And delightful colours in your outfit today!

ps. I felt the same way about my stuffed animals! And now I feel that way about my clothing in general...and jewelry. I know "stuff" doesn't actually have feelings. But it sure feels like it does sometimes!

Wow your owl bag is incredible I'm in love with it. You have the most perfect hair and I love the style. I used to do a similar style until the other day when I cut my hair and it is now too short.

bestie said...

Haha awww.. well at least you got to take little owley (eh?) out for a bit! Maybe you should name him so you feel more "connected". Hehe. Hmm. Unless of course it makes you feel more guilty when you leave him behind?

Ahh. Okay I'm rambling. :p excellent styling and photos as always! The last pic has a rather bittersweet feel to it... Like I want to pick up the bag and give it a little hug. (:

SWF_Terra said...

I sometimes felt like perhaps I was a little crazy for feeling guilty over neglecting certain stuffed companions. It's good to hear I had some company.

This bag is so perfect. I'm glad the owl gave you the crook eye.

Oh goodness, that owl bag is awesome. I used to feel the same way you did about your stuffed animals about a lot of my toys. You think children wouldn't feel guilty about those things.

I don't get to comment as much here as I'd like, but just wanted to let you know that I've really enjoyed photos from your new town and admire that you seem to find the most beautiful landscapes. You've always been one of my favorite reads and I just love how much thought seems to go into your outfits and photographs -- each photo looks like it could be a still from a movie, which makes it seem like part of a larger story.

Also, about anthropomorphous stuffed animals: I used to feel so bad about excluding some of mine when I was little that I would sleep with all of them at the end of my bed. Not that it was productive in trying to get to sleep at all, but I hope they felt included. :)

I love the movie, A Woman is Woman, especially the scene where she's dancing around with her bright blue tights..that inspired me to go buy a pair, which ended up looking purple in daylight :(

And I totally did that with my stuffed animals too..I still have my fave teddy, tucked away on a shelf in my closet, I still feel guilty to this day that I don't bring her to bed with me. Funny how stuffed animals can have such an impact on our lives!

Emily, Ruby Slipper Journeys said...

I have to say, in light of your story, the owl looks particularly beady-eyed and controlling in these pictures! Still, I think he deserved a day out...

I used to do just the same with my stuffed animals. I still felt too guilty to get rid of most of them when my parents recently moved.
